An elderly resident of a village near Moscow, local historian Pyotr Reshetnikov dies a strange death. His neighbor, retired head teacher, and now amateur sleuth Marfa Vasilievna Korzhikova decides to solve the mystery of the old man’s death. In this she is helped by her granddaughter Anfisa. Soon fate brings Anfisa together with the businessman Ilya, as it turns out later — the nephew of the late Peter Martynovich.
